Wichita Blues Society

The Wichita Blues Society has been an affiliate of the Memphis-based Blues Foundation since 1983. Our mission is to celebrate blues music, a uniquely American art form, through live performances, community involvement and education. The WBS is a non-profit organization run by volunteers and supported through memberships, donations and sponsors.

B.I.T.S. Program

Blues In The Schools is an umbrella term used to describe a program that utilizes a classroom format to teach children about the Blues. Programs are not limited to schools or classrooms; they can be held anywhere.


Why Teach The Blues? The Blues is the first truly American music. With its roots in the deep South of the 1800s, it spread across the U.S., evolving based on the styles and preferences of the region, but always soulful and reflecting the human condition. From the acoustic blues of the front porch to the electrifying sounds of the Chicago Blues scene, it has been the major influence in jazz, rock and roll, and country western music. We can find common ground through the Blues.

    Join us for an evening filled with music, community, and love at Jenny Woodstock, a benefit show for the Lord’s Diner and The Salvation Army! Get ready to welcome back one of Wichita’s most cherished musicians, Jenny Wood, as she graces our city with her incredible talent for the first time in 3 YEARS.
    As we come together to celebrate Jenny’s return, we’ll be treated to the musical stylings of not only Jenny herself but also her talented bandmates, Ammoretta Layne Taylor and Rob Stewart in Jenny Wood and the Wooden Lovers. Their harmonies and melodies will uplift our spirits and remind us of the joy that music brings to our lives.
