Wichita Blues Society – Home Page

The Wichita Blues Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1983 by a handful of blues lovers who wanted to revitalize the blues scene in the Wichita area. Since that time, membership has grown and the WBS is one of the oldest societies in the nation.

B.I.T.S. Program

Blues In The Schools is an umbrella term used to describe a program that utilizes a classroom format to teach children about the Blues. Programs are not limited to schools or classrooms; they can be held anywhere.

Why Teach The Blues? The Blues is the first truly American music. With its roots in the deep South of the 1800s, it spread across the U.S., evolving based on the styles and preferences of the region, but always soulful and reflecting the human condition. From the acoustic blues of the front porch to the electrifying sounds of the Chicago Blues scene, it has been the major influence in jazz, rock and roll, and country western music. We can find common ground through the Blues.

NEWS FLASH!! We are very happy to announce the impending release of our newest album, “Live at the Shamrock Lounge”, on Friday, October 27th. We’ve played the Shamrock more than any other club in Wichita and have had some killer shows there over the years. It’s our pleasure to share some of that energy with you all as we present 9 songs recorded live at our home venue in the hometown. We hope to see all of our ICT friends there on Oct. 27 for the release party! Our buddy Tom Pevear from Tulsa will be our special guest to open the show with some old-school country blues finger-picking guitar. Y'all don't want to miss this one!
