    What is B.I.T.S.?

Blues In The Schools is an umbrella term used to describe a program that utilizes a classroom format to teach children about the Blues. Programs are not limited to schools or classrooms; they can be held anywhere.

The WBS has sponsored more than 70 BITS presentations in Wichita and surrounding communities.  We were happy to be a participating education sponsor in Exploration Place’s exhibit "Guitar: The Instrument that Rocked the World," holding four events during the exhibit run including building diddly bows with kids.

Interested in having the WBS visit your school or organization?  Send an email to wichitabluessociety@gmail.com

Your Support Keeps the Blues Alive!

Why Teach The Blues? The Blues is the first truly American music. With its roots in the deep South of the 1800s, it spread across the U.S., evolving based on the styles and preferences of the region, but always soulful and reflecting the human condition. From the acoustic blues of the front porch to the electrifying sounds of the Chicago Blues scene, it has been the major influence in jazz, rock and roll, and country western music. We can find common ground through the Blues..

Zydeco master Chubby Carrier presenting his Zydeco A to Z program.

    Music, History and Song

Our musician educators cover a variety of topics. From basic 12-bar Blues — the chords and progressions that are the foundation of many music genres  — to the people and places integral with developing this musical art form. Presentations are engaging and can be customized for grade level or curriculum. Contact us if you want more information.
